Hibiscus elatus, commonly known as the Blue Mahoe, is a tall, fast-growing tree native to Jamaica and Cuba, and is Jamaica's national tree, prized for its beautiful, color-changing flowers and its distinctive blue-green, highly durable wood. It's a member of the mallow family (Malvaceae) and is known for its large, heart-shaped leaves and showy, trumpet-shaped flowers that transition from yellow to orange, red, and crimson. The inner bark is also used for making rope, and the wood is used for furniture and crafts.
